The way the LGBTQ+ community has been portrayed in popular culture has come a long, long way in recent years. Although there's still a lot of work to be done, so many creative queer folks have been making awesome and inclusive movies, music, TV shows, and more that better represents our lives and our stories, so in honor of Pride Month, we're taking the time to honor 25 of these inspiring people! This is the 2019 #PRIDE25!

Indya Moore swept onto the scene with a breakout role in Ryan Murphy’s Pose, a drama spotlighting the LGBTQ Black and Latinx underground ballroom scene in NYC in the '80s and '90s, and there’s absolutely no question that they’re here to stay.

At only 24, Moore has already become a fierce advocate for the trans and gender-nonconforming communities, leading open and honest discussions about the obstacles trans people face in our society and what we can do to change that.

“This influenced cis people’s perspectives in a way that made trans people safer to be around them,” they said of working on Pose. “It got to reaffirm the value and necessity and the legitimacy of trans people’s lives.”

In addition to acting and modeling, Moore has been a vocal presence at rallies for trans rights, and has become known for not only calling out bigotry on their own social media, but also having an open willingness to learn from others within the community — a key component of a truly great activist and leader.

And with causes so dear to their heart, Moore couldn’t be anything different.

“I don’t know who I am outside of someone who’s just trying to be free and find safety for myself and others,” they told Elle earlier this year, where they were featured as the first transgender model to grace the magazine’s cover.

With the important work Moore is doing, both as an actor and an activist, hopefully the next generation of trans and non-binary kids won’t have to struggle quite as much to find their own freedom and safety.

Season 2 of Pose is currently airing on FX!
