Rian Johnson’sGlass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is earring all sorts of buzz. The sequel to the original Knives Out starring Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc, has captivated audiences around the world. Whether it’s speculating about the relationship of Detective Blanc (or “Hercule Poirot, but make him a Southern Gentleman”), or lavishing in the pure camp of conniving characters and outlandish schemes, or it may just be Janelle MonáeGlass Onion is a gift to the queer audience and it’s one that’s wrapped elegantly.

To celebrate the film’s Netflix premiere (on December 23) and add to the hype the streamer has put together a Glass Onion themed escape room. That’s right! And you guys? It’s fabulous! PRIDE was there alongside stars Monáe and Kate Hudson to try to unlock its mysteries.

Glass Onion centers around Miles Bron (Edward Norton) and his group of friends (of varying loyalty). He’s holding an annual get together on a small Grecian Isle and invites his best friends. Among these are Birdie Jay (Hudson) a washed up fashion model who is both the embodiment of “there’s no such thing as bad press” and “but really there is”. There’s also the mysterious Andi aka Cassandra Brand (Monáe), a formerly ostracized member of the group who shows up unannounced.

Hudson and Monáe were special guests at the escape room and helped with a special twist behind the scenes. You went in as a team and if you lose the challenge, then some at random are kicked out of the room, but it doesn’t mean they leave the experience! Behind the scenes you have a chance to help or sabotage the rest of your team and that’s where Hudson and Monáe came in.

Both were delighted by the attention to detail in each of the rooms which were curated to an inch of their lives. Once I was eliminated (I was framed!) I was sent behind the scenes where Monáe and Hudson were hiding out, deciding their next moves.

“Do we help them or hurt them?” I asked.

“Both!” they say nearly in unison.

After our turn we were congratulated by the duo and had a chance to talk to them about their characters and experience. Watch our PRIDE’s interview below.

The Glass Onion Escape Experience is free and will be in LA until December 23rd. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will premiere on Netflix December 23rd.
