We all have friends we love to hate. Friends who know exactly how to push our buttons or ones who manage to always spark a fight. You often find yourself leaving your encounters feeling drained, upset, or annoyed.

nope

You often wonder why you continue to hang out, and then come up with justifications as to why you remain friends. Any of these things should be red flags that your friendship isn’t a solid one, but if these signs are your reality, then you’re in a toxic friendship. And believe us, the older you get, the less bullshit you’ll be willing to handle, so it’s better you just cut ties now.

1. They talk over you.

nope

Can you ever get a word in? Does it feel like she manages to talk over you through text too? Toxic.

2. They never listen to anything you say, they just pretend to.

eye roll

There’s a lot of overly wide eyes, her uncomfortably earnest nodding head and words spilling out of her mouth as soon as you punctuate your sentence. There was 0 listening to anything you said and 100 thinking about the next thing she wanted to say. Toxic.

3. They’re annoyed if you want to bring along your S/O and often leaving you wondering if they’re jealous of your relationship.

what

By the time you hit the ripe age of out-of-high-school, dealing with friends who seem jealous of your girlfriend is something you should refuse to do. So toxic.

4. They always talk shit about all your mutual friends.

what

We’re obviously not going to tell you that talking shit is bad, because it’s can be therapeutic and hilarious, but talking shit about people you both know, especially good people who mean something to you, is really weird. And toxic.

5. They think their opinions are absolute truths, and don’t take well to you disagreeing.

annoyed

Having a conversation with a stubborn naive child is something you should leave in your recess days and not something you maintain through your dinner and drinks days. Because, toxic.

6. They are over controlling when you’re trying to make plans or do anything that involves logistics.

what

If you know anyone who is tyrannical enough to always demand choosing or approving where you go out and even expect you and your friends to come to them first before making plans, isn’t a good. It’s a toxic one.

7. They need to always have the last word.

adventure time

No matter the topic or what you choose to tell them, a toxic friend will always make sure that they have the last word, because they’re narcissistic and constantly need their voice to be heard.
