On the heels of releasing a new anti-homophobia single, Taylor Swift showed up as a surprise guest last night at the Stonewall Inn in NYC.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson invited Swift to perform as part of a celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which began on June 28, 1969.

Fifty years late is better than never.
On Thursday, New York City Police Commissioner James O’Neill took a step towards reconciliation between the NYC police and the NYC LGBTQ community, apologizing, at last, for the police department’s actions during the Stonewall Riots of 1969.

Trans activists Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera are set to be honored with a monument in New York City — and it’s about time.
Both women are considered to have been pivotal to the riots that took place at the Stonewall Inn in 1969, essentially the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. (Though some claim Rivera was not present at the actual riots, she was a regular patron at the Stonewall Inn and undoubtedly still an essential figure in LGBTQ history.)

Get ready to get emotional. The first official trailer for ABC's new miniseries When We Rise has been released and it's one of the most chilling first looks we've ever seen. When We Rise follows the history of the LGBT rights movement, starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969, explored through the eyes of some of the most prominent members of the fight for LGBT equality in America. Mary Louise Parker and Guy Pearce star as prominent activists Roma Guy and Cleve Jones while the star-studded cast also includes Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, David Hyde Pierce, Rachel Griffiths, Emily Skeggs, and Austin P. McKenzie. Also, kudos to whoever chose Pentatonix's spine-tingling cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" to accompany this gorgeous trailer. Watch here:
