Rachel Maddow on The Ellen Show: Media Doesn't Treat Women Fairly

MSNBC new anchor Rachel Maddow visited The Ellen Show on Thursday to discuss Miss Representation, a new documentary that explores portrayals of women in the media. Maddow—who appears in the documentary with Jane Fonda, Margaret Cho, Rosario Dawson and others—told Ellen that the film examines how “the media doesn’t treat women all that fairly” and how the current environment “gives girls tunnel vision about what are OK ways to be.”

Maddow also shared that all of the hate mail she receives is about her appearance, rather than an argument or position she has. “You’re Rachel Mad-cow, ‘cause you look like a cow,” Maddow said, referring to one of the many insults she gets. She is also frequently called “him” in her hate mail.
