There’s not a big demand for condoms among lesbians, but that didn’t keep NüVo Condoms from choosing a lesbian military couple as recipients of an all-expenses-paid dream wedding at this year’s New York City PrideFest.
Amanda Ortiz and Rachel Murphy are the lucky couple, and although same-sex marriage is not legally recognized in their home state of Texas, it is in New York, and NüVo’s award of a wedding at PrideFest celebrates the second anniversary of marriage equality in that state.
“We really want to make a statement, not just for our LGBT brothers and sisters in arms, but equality for all!” the women said in a press release. “Everyone deserves the rights we are supposed to have as Americans, civilian and military alike. We cannot wait to share our love and officially become Mrs. and Mrs. Ortiz-Murphy.”
The wedding, which NüVo officials say will be the first at PrideFest, will take place June 30. Interfaith minister Kim Kirkley will officiate. Ortiz and Murphy will receive wedding attire created by fashion designer Mah-Jing Wong, rings from Unusual Wedding Rings and More, flowers from Cress Floral Decorators, catering by Markie B's Jamaican Cuisine, a cake from Carlo’s Bakery, and a wedding night stay at the Out NYC Hotel. Touch of Class DJ will provide music, Marriage Equality Photography will take pictures of the wedding, and Treasured Memories.tv will videotape it. addition, NüVo Condoms will also give the couple $1,000 to put toward the honeymoon of their choice.
