West Virginia GOP Delegate Thinks 'the LGBTQ' Is Modern Day KKK

A GOP delegate in West Virginia is under scrutiny after comparing the LGBTQ community to the Ku Klux Klan.

Eric Porterfield spoke to Charleston Gazette-Mail to defend previous homophobic comments he had made, and wound up calling the LGBTQ community a “terrorist group” and saying that “the LGBTQ is a modern day version of the Ku Klux Klan, without wearing hoods with their antics of hate.”

On Wednesday, Porterfield attended a committee meeting in regards to an amendment that would have allowed certain anti-LGBTQ discriminations to take place throughout the state. He gave a speech at the meeting attacking the LGBTQ community, which ultimately sparked his inane KKK comments.

“This is discrimination against the First Amendment and religious liberty, and the LGBT is the most socialist group and they don’t protect gays,” he said. “There are many gays they persecute if they do not line up with their social ideology.”

The latter comment apparently referred to alt-right extremist Milo Yiannopoulos. Porterfield dedicated some of his time using the boycott of Yiannopoulos’s tour stop at Berkeley to claim that “the LGBT” is dangerous and socialist.

While the chairwoman of the West Virginia Republican Party has not commented on Porterfield’s extended tirade, the Democrats in the state have largely condemned his remarks and some are calling for his resignation.

“West Virginia has no room for someone who expresses such hate, let alone room for him to hold a public office where he is supposed to represent the people of West Virginia,” Belinda Biafore, the state Democratic Party chairwoman, said. “His hate-filled remarks and actions speak volumes, and so does the Republican Party’s silence.”

Meanwhile, Porterfield has continued taking people’s anger at his hate-filled remarks as proof that he was right and everyone else is wrong.

“These vicious monsters are proving that they are the most bigoted and discriminatory people in America,” he posted on Facebook. “Though they try to intimidate and bully and try to strike fear to me and my family, we ask the Lord to help us stand tall against their persecution and their leftist minions within the legislature.”
