Despite Perez Hilton's public accusation about an alleged assault by Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am over the weekend, The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is now demanding that the homosexual celebrity blogger presents his formal apology to the hip hop star for his anti-gay slur use of the word "faggot," according to The Advocate.
In a statement, GLAAD spokesperson Rashad Robinson says, "These are vulgar anti-gay slurs that feed a climate of hatred and intolerance toward our community.
"For someone in our own community to use it to attack another person by saying that it is, quote, 'The worst possible thing that thug would ever want to hear,' is incredibly dangerous. It legitimises use of a slur that is often linked to violence against our community. And it sends a message that it is OK to attempt to dehumanise people by exploiting anti-gay attitudes.
"We have reached out to Hilton and asked him to apologise for promoting this anti-gay slur, and we would ask media outlets to avoid repetition of the slur in their coverage of this story."
The confrontation allegedly occurred at an after-party following the MuchMusic Video Awards in Canada on Sunday night. According to Hilton, Will I Am physically attacked him over comments that he posted about the band's lead singer Fergie on his website. Hilton claimed he was left bleeding and in shock following the incident. Meanwhile Will.i.am insisted there was no violence and in return accused Hilton of calling him a "f**got" as they argued outside a nightclub in Toronto. Yet is Black Eyed Peas' manager Polo Molina who later turned himself into Toronto authorities and was charged with assault.
Now a furious Hilton, a former GLAAD employee, is pissed about GLAAD being pissed at him and released a statement demanding an apology from GLAAD:
"I am saddened GLAAD chose to victimize me further by criticizing me for how I non-violently dealt with a very scary situation that, unfortunately, turned violent. While I doubt I will get an apology from GLAAD, nor do I expect one, I would just hope people know how difficult it is to intellectualize a situation and think rationally when a thug disguised as a musician is screaming at your face and intimidating you. I am just very fortunate and grateful that nothing more serious happened to me."
Whether a publicity stunt or an actual fact, Perez Hilton, also known under his legal name as Mario Lavandeira, has quite possibly made a major faux-pas ironically getting a taste of his own gossip-trashing medicine.
Even Fergie's mother, Terri, commented jokingly: "Thank God it wasn't Fergie... I think she could have taken him out."
Looks like the world -- including Hilton's own LGBT community -- is siding with Will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas on this one!
