Who will be brave enough to Snap her?

In completely adorable news, Samira Wiley, known for her role in Orange Is the New Black as heartthrob and sweetheart Poussey, got a Snapchat account last night.

We all waited (somewhat patiently) when we heard the news.

The best part? She had no idea what she was doing. HOW CUTE IS THIS TWEET?!

Total confusion aside, Samira proves to be cooler than cool as @WhoDoDat, our new favorite Snapchat friend. Her most recent? “I still don’t know how to do this. Is this a Snap?”

Yes, Samira. It’s a Snap. Our new most beloved Snap.

While it may seem silly to be so pumped about Samira Wiley getting a Snapchat, for me it all comes down to the fact that she’s one of few visible queer women of color in the public eye. Especially because she’s a Black woman, it feels so important to have her talking about her coming out experience and saying it wasn’t horrible. Her parents love and support her. She’s happy. To have someone like that exist, and to have someone like me have so much public support and so many people who have her back, feels revolutionary.

When I was coming out, I really struggled with not seeing people who looked like me standing up and announcing their queerness in any real way. I couldn't find, and still struggle with finding, other queer women of color to be friends with and to show solidarity beside. Often, it feels like I'm the only one. But that's not the case.

So yeah, I’m a huge, huge fan of Samira Wiley. And I’m so excited to be able to stay up-to-date on her everyday life — even if it may take a while for her to get a handle on the app.
