So it’s a normal, average, run-of-the-mill afternoon and, as usual, you’ve got your eyes glued to your smartphone..

You’re not really thinking much of it, especially since you’re pretty much a professional texter/Snapchatter/Tweeter, but then all of a sudden the dreaded “low battery” notification pops up, disrupting you and your productive game of Angry Birds, just to inform you that only 10% of battery life stands between you and a dead phone.

The panic sets in..

Suddenly your normal afternoon is turned into a whirling episode of fear and regret (Why didn’t I charge my phone before I left the house this morning?!?), and the only thing on your mind is Where is the nearest electrical outlet and how can I get to it?!.

If this scenario is all too real and all too familiar, that’s because you, my friend, are one of the gazillions of people on this Earth who are obsessed with making sure their smartphones don’t run out of the vital battery juice that gives them the ability to occupy our every waking minute. After all, what good is a phone if you can’t be on it 24/7, right?

Just ask the guy who interrupted a Broadway production of the Hand of God play last Sunday to charge his phone on an on-stage outlet.

While we don’t condone public rudeness for the sake of battery life, we do know first hand the feeling(s) you get when your phone is about to give out.

Like the utter hysteria when you first realize you only have a few minutes left with your smartphone before it goes bye-bye..

Or the total despair of not knowing what you’ll do with your life once your phone dies..

The anxiety you get once you realize you’ll have to communicate with people the old-fashioned way. Talking out loud..

And the sheer anger from not charging your phone earlier on in the day...

And especially, all the FOMO you’ll be experiencing once you realize you won’t be up-to-date with all the world’s trending topics..

And then once your phone actually does run out of battery and dies out on you, you realize, Hey, it’s actually a nice day today, and maybe I should experience it for myself instead of through a small screen!.

Word to the wise: your phone running out of battery isn’t always a bad thing. If it happens to you, maybe it’s a sign to, I don’t know, get out and LIVE every once in a while….
