As ABC Family’s little family show with the big heart The Fosters gears up for its winter season on Jan. 19, the network announced that it has picked up beloved series about lesbian moms raising biological, adopted, and foster kids for a 3rd season, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The series, from executive producer Jennifer Lopez and created by Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige, ranked as the No. 1 scripted cable series in its time period in target demographics during its summer season, THR reports.
If you haven’t been drawn into the beautiful emotional rollercoaster that is The Fosters, actresses Teri Polo and Sherri Saum play Stef and Lena, moms raising five teens who tackle typical teen problems as well as struggle with adoption issues for one remaining foster kid Callie (Maia Mitchell).
The series also gets queer points for its depiction of recurring trans character Cole, played by trans actor Tom Phelan. And if that’s not enough, Rosie O’Donnell frequently appears as a wise social worker doling out advice to Callie along the way.
Here’s to another season Kari Kimmel’s theme song “Where You Belong,” set to images of breakfast food that somehow how makes us choke up even though we know to expect it in every episode.
