More of this, please.

While there is definitely a much higher chance that your family will be accepting if you come out as LGBTQ nowadays than, say, fifty years ago, it can still be a harrowing experience. Some kids still end up rejected or unsupported by their parents, just for being honest about who they are.

So when one teen shared the story of her dad supporting both his gay daughters, it was a wonderful beacon of hope on the sometimes pretty dark internet.

“I convinced my dad to get his first tattoo and he sent me something that my little sister painted,” Kaitlyn Atwell tweeted at the end of June.

She went on to share a series of texts between her and her dad, in which he sent a picture of rainbow lips drawn by Kaitlyn’s younger sister.

“I think I’d have to get the color,” he said when Kaitlyn asked if it would be just black ink or the full spectrum. “She put the colors for a reason. It’s almost pride like right?! I do have two gay daughters whom I’m very proud of, so I think I would definitely get the color.”

Kaitlyn’s tweet went viral, and she shared more info about her dad and her family, referring to him as her “best pal.”

It wasn’t long before Papa Atwell joined Twitter himself, declaring that he’s “everyone’s dad now.”

They promised Kaitlyn would update when her dad does finally get that tattoo, but for now we’re just glad we got to share in this sweet story of unconditional love and support.
