5 Tweets That Prove Bisexual Visibility Matters

Last week, the amazing and illuminating presence of bisexuals was felt worldwide for 2015’s Bisexuality Visibility Day. While the mainstream LGBTQ rights movement often overlooks contributions and bisexual struggles, this day provides a platform for people to put their faces and individual experiences to the identity.

Started in 1999 by three bisexual rights activists — Wendy Curry, Michael Page and Gigi Raven Wilbur — the event has bloomed into the larger Bi Awareness Week. Here are eight tweets that showcase the importance of bi pride, bi visibility and prove we should fight bisexual erasure everyday.

1. It's a real identity; you don't have to "get it."

2. Compulsory heterosexuality affects intersectional identities differently.

3. Bisexuality exists on a spectrum outside a binary.

4. Accurate representation matters to bisexual youth.

5. The media and larger LGBTQ communities continue to erase bisexuality.

If you haven’t quite gotten your fix, check out these other amazing posts on bisexuality here on Pride and remember you can always show your pride and/or support!
