Beth Ditto of Gossip recently spoke with The Guardian about the group's fifth studio album, A Joyful Noise, growing up in a religious small town, preparations marry her girlfriend, and having kids in the future.
Having just released A Joyful Noise, the front woman of Gossip will be on the road touring for a while, but also making wedding plans. Ditto and Kristin Ogata who live together in Portland, Oregon, plan to marry next April.
Ditto told The Guardian, “She's from Hawaii and I'm from Arkansas, and I'm like, this is going to be the most hilarious cultural matching." She has also been making travel arrangements for her large family (her mom and seven siblings who all have one or more children) to get to Hawaii for the big day. Both brides and the guests will wear white.
As for the longer-term side of getting married, Ditto said, “I was born to be married. I just feel comfortable there. I love the idea of being partnered forever. I love my girlfriend, we've been best friends since I was 18. There's not a thing we haven't been through except for marriage… We've had talks about what we would name our kids since we were in our 20s."
With a full plate between her tour and upcoming nuptials, Ditto is trying not to get worked up over the election this year, saying:
"Gay people and women, and immigration, all of these things that could go in a buck-wild direction if we don't get someone else in office who cares, and someone who is going to protect our rights. It's going to be a really scary situation. It'll just be the Reagan years times 20. It'll be the Reagan years with the Internet. That's how I feel about it."
