Even in the midst of a boycott Target officials have rejected the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) proposal to donate to a gay rights organization to offset the 150K the retail giant contributed to Minnesota’s vehemently anti-gay gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, according to the L.A. Times.
HRC officials say the organization will continue to boycott Target, and is considering rescinding Target Corps’ 100 percent rating on its “Corporate Equality Index,” which measures corporate hiring diversity policies on a scale of 0 to 100.
"If their initial contribution was a slap in the face, their refusal to make it right is a punch in the gut and that's not something that we will soon forget," said HRC President Joe Solmonese.
HRC reps said they had reached two tentative agreements with Target before the retailer backed out entirely on the notion of matching a 150K donation to a gay rights organization.
Target reps did not respond to the L.A. Times for comment.
In light of Target’s double middle fingers up to the LGBT community, it looks as though the boycott will go on. And perhaps more actions like this pseudo-flash mob protesting the store will continue!
