Aubrey Plaza just made a story told by White Lotus co-star Meghann Fahy so much better after clarifying one important little detail — they were on mushrooms.
The actress stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers to discuss how season two of the popular HBO show wrapped up. Although she hilariously didn’t seem to remember much about the actual scenes she was in, leaving Meyers to explain them to her, she did have a pretty clear memory about an adventure that took place with Fahy in Italy when they weren’t shooting.
According to Fahy, who had spoken with Meyers on the show a week prior, the two got lost while hiking and wound up on the side of the highway. They encountered what Fahy described as a “biker gang” who greeted them, but Plaza did not want to be perceived.
“She told a story that made you seem rude to Italian motorists,” Meyers told Plaza.
“I was tripping balls, bitch,” she clarified.
“Fahy left out the most important part, which is that we were on mushrooms,” the actress explained. “She told the story and it was like, ‘Aubrey was on the road and all these Italian guys are on motorcycles, and Aubrey is like, ‘Don’t look at me!’’”
“I was tripping! It was terrifying. We were lost on a highway and there were Italian men going ‘Vroom, vroom!’ coming at me. I thought they were taking me to the dark side,” she continued.
Imagining Plaza and Fahy tripping on mushrooms lost in Italy isn’t actually a big departure from their characters on The White Lotus, and would make a spin-off we would gladly tune into week-to-week. But for now, getting this hilarious bit of clarity on an already-amusing story is excellent enough.
