Loki hive rise! We're going to be seeing the brand new Disney+ series starring our fave canonically pansexual Norse trickster sooner rather than later!
Originally planned for Friday, June 11, Loki will now be premiering on Wednesday, June 9, with star Tom Hiddleston saying "Wednesdays are the new Fridays" in a brand new announcement video!
Following WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki is Disney+'s third original MCU Phase 4 TV series and features the canonically queer God of Mischief "as he steps out of his brother’s shadow after the events of Avengers: Endgame," the show's official description reads. "Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs Loki and Michael Waldron is head writer."
"Start your countdown to the glorious arrival of Marvel Studios' @OfficialLoki," Marvel wrote, sharing the first official Loki poster on social media. "The Original Series starts streaming June 11 on @DisneyPlus."
As excited as we are to have Loki back on TV sets, we do have one burning question that needs to be answered as soon as possible: will Loki's queerness FINALLY be explored on screen?
According to a report from the We Got This Covered blog citing Marvel insider and influencer Daniel Richtman, Loki's queerness could finally be showcased in his upcoming Disney+ solo show, with the popular MCU character getting both a male and female love interest!
Though longtime beloved Hiddleston will star in the Disney+ show, We Got This Covered is also reporting that multiple actors are going to be used to play multiple versions (and ages) of Thor's mischievous AF sibling.
We first learned about Loki getting his own solo series during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, but considering the long history Marvel has had with straight-washing their queer characters for the big screen, we didn't have high hopes that Loki's confirmed pansexuality in the comics would ever make its way onto our TV sets.
While neither Disney nor Marvel Studios has confirmed these reports, we're being optimistic, and it's still exciting to think that modern superhero media as we know it is getting more and more inclusive as the years go by, and we can't wait to see if this rumor becomes true! Queer Loki is what we've been waiting so long to see!!
