Today, the Oscar nominations came out and our hearts sank when we realized Carol had been snubbed for Best Picture and Best Director. This, of course, makes no sense, since Carol has widely been regarded as easily one of the best films of 2015 and Todd Haynes is a movie-making genius who brought the 1950s and the fragile, blossoming love of Carol Aird and Therese Belivet to life. And while we were definitely devastated, we're pretty sure our cats didn't handle the information well either. Here's how we imagine felines all over the nation reacted to the news.
10. When Carol wasn't announced as a Best Picture nominee and our cats suddenly needed everyone to stop talking and go away:
9. When they were forced to recognize the alive and wellness of the heteronormative patriarchy and needed it to behold their furry fury:
8. When they simply couldn't handle this development and just needed to run away:
7. When people tried to tell them they were taking this snub too seriously and that they should just get over it:
6. When they got distracted and started having a good day, then suddenly remembered that Carol wasn't nominated for Best Picture.
5. When they tried to rise above and accept this development, but failed miserably:
4. When the rage overcame them and a destructive disdain for the political machine that is Hollywood took hold:
3. When they decided it would be easier to just watch the world burn:
2. When their friends were getting so excited about the nominations and the joy of cinema and then they were forced to step in and ruin that misplaced fun:
1. When they tried to demonstrate that they too could fight Leonardo DiCaprio, but didn't necessarily deserve an Oscar for it:
May 2017 be kinder to us all. Meow.
