'Call Your Father' Tackles the Generational Differences Between Gay Men

A painful short film that reveals the many faults of all gay men, regardless of age.

Queer filmmaker Jordan Firstman recently released his latest project, Call Your Father. The short film explores the generational differences between the younger generation of millennial gays and the older generation of gay men who lived through the AIDS epidemic.

The film, honestly, is painful to watch. Not because the writing is bad or the acting is subpar. (On the contrary, both are great.) The film simply exposes some uncomfortable truths that reveal the (many) faults of gay people in both the younger and older generations.

The film stars two men, Greg (Craig Chester) and Josh (Jordan Firstman), as they venture out for a night filled with all the emotions: lust, loathing, pleasure, pain, awkwardness, rage, sadness, and pure joy.

While I’d make the claim that both men are caricatures of their respective generations (especially Josh, the 24 year-old millennial), the film still reveals the ways where all of us, regardless of age, can mature.

Rather than spoiling more of the film, watch Call Your Father for yourself in the video below!
