We are proud to premiere the first video of legendary Ferron’s latest project with the iconoclastic musician and producer Bitch!
Singer/songwriter Ferron, often referred to as “the lesbian Johnny Cash,” has been churning out impassioned folk music -- that is pretty much the best road music on the planet -- since the late ‘70s. Her 1984 release Shadows on a Dime is essential to a canon of not only women’s music, but of folk music at large, and she has influenced the likes of The Indigo Girls and Ani DiFranco.
Ferron and Bitch first collaborated on 2008’s Boulder, and now they’ve joined forces with visual/video artist Billie Jo Cavallaro for Thunder and Lighten-ing, a chronicle of Ferron’s career that is presented in both a visual documentary and with some of Ferron’s poetry re-imagined in song.
Thunder and Lighten-ing came to fruition through Kickstarter, and was made available to sponsors last summer. The following video for “The Pledge” marks the project’s public debut, and we are happy to share it.
