5 Reasons to Get Obsessed with Fox's The Following

There's still time to catch up on this fascinating series!

Many remember gay showrunner Kevin Williamson from his iconic 90s show Dawson’s Creek. Williamson also created the Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer thriller film series and the CW’s supernatural series The Secret Circle and The Vampire Diaries. The second season of his newest series on FOX, The Following, which has received major critical acclaim, began last week. Williamson, 48, has said he knew he was gay "as far back as [he] can remember," but officially came out to his family and friends in 1992. The Following is rife with homoerotic content and is a superb thriller that is must watch TV and prime for binge-watching. On FOX Mondays at 9pm EST.

5. A Dream within a Dream
The Following charts the quest of a former FBI agent, Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon, who is terrific in the role) trying to catch a serial killer–who tried to kill him once before–with a murderous cult that revolves around the work of Edgar Allan Poe.

4.The Imp of the Perverse
Dr. Joe Carroll (the magnificent British actor James Purefoy) is an English professor whose immersion in Poe has turned him into a serial killer. His charisma with both men and women lures people to his murderous cult. The cult members are gay and bisexual sociopaths with a love of Carroll, orgiastic killing and sex.

3.The Premature Burial
At the end of season one (spoiler alert), Carroll was killed in an explosion. Or maybe not. Has he resurfaced to lead his cult anew?

2.The Tell-Tale Heart
Carroll inspires adoration–homoerotic as well as heterosexual. In season 1, Jacob (Nico Tortorella) and Paul (Adan Canto) were lovers with each other and Jacob was also involved with Emma (Valorie Curry), leader of Carroll’s band of followers. The three wrought havoc near and far–including in the bedroom.

1. Quoth the Raven, Nevermore
Hardy is determined to avenge a series of killings perpetrated by Carroll and his cult as season 2 opens. Helping him in his quest are his niece, Max (Jessica Stroup), an NYPD cop and Lily Gray (Connie Nielsen), one of Carroll’s cult’s latest victims.
