Lessons We Learned From Old School My Drunk Kitchen
Nowadays, creator of YouTube series "My Drunk Kitchen" Hannah Hart is an Internet sensation. With more than two-million subscribers on YouTube, almost a million followers on Twitter, a bestselling book, and several successful tours under her belt, Hart has established herself as one of the strongest voices on YouTube — and one of the most hilarious.
I began watching Hart's videos several years back, when MDK was gearing up for a second season. Back then, though her popularity was gaining fast, Hart was just a funny drunk woman navigating the world of intoxicated cooking.
Her videos have always been laugh-out-loud funny, but they also taught us lessons about life, love, and the pursuit of cheese-- I mean, happiness.
Let's take a quick walk down memory lane and look back on all of the vital lessons Hannah taught us early on, even way back in season one:
Ep. 1 "Butter Yo Shit"
Lesson Learned: Cooking requires special materials.
"It's important for you to remember, when cooking, to use food."
Ep. 2 "Let's Mac Out"
Lesson Learned: The kitchen is an emotional place.
"You're waiting for water to boil. That's, you know, if you're alone, that's like-- that's a sad time."
Ep. 3 "Omelette You Finish"
Lesson Learned: Sometimes healthy choices are terrible choices.
"Some people like to only have egg whites in their omelettes, and that's a good way to make your omelette shitty."
Ep. 4 "Not Easy, Bake Oven"
Lesson Learned: Don't bake.
"So, the worst part of baking is everything about baking."
Ep. 5 "Smashed Brothers"
Lesson Learned: If you're going to cook, make meatballs.
"You know guys, turns out meatballs is the easiest thing in the whole goddamn world."
Ep. 6 "Brunch?"
Lesson Learned: Brunch isn't that special.
"That's the whole point of brunch, is you get drunk in the morning. I just call that morning."
Ep. 7 "Let's Taco Bout It"
Lesson Learned: It's all relative.
"I really hate it when guys are like, 'I could drink you under the table!' A) I have been drinking under the table, and B) you're like double my body weight. Duh! I bet I can out-crawl into tiny spaces you!"
Ep. 8 "Ice Cream? Someday..."
Lesson Learned: Summer is not for everyone.
"Guys, it's summertime. That basically means a time of moisture and defeat."
Ep. 9 "Latkes!"
Lesson Learned: It's always fun to come up with new marketing strategies for products.
"Sea salt. It's for people that are like,"Huh...Oh, no. Is sea salt okay?"
Ep. 10 "Poutine"
Lesson Learned: Fries should always be at the forefront of your mind.
"Real time cooking instruction: Check on your fries. Even if you're not making fries, just check!"
Ep. 11 "Holiday: Candy Hand"
Lesson Learned: Halloween is A+
"Halloween is my favorite holiday because you can get drunk and eat a lot of candy. Also, there's no guilt, no familial expectation. You know, your mom's never like, 'Hey, it's Halloween, why didn't you come over and hang out with the family?' They know it's cuz you're out there getting fucked up with your friends."
Ep. 12 "Pizza"
Lesson Learned: Don't be afraid to ask for the cheese really want in life.
"Really, people are just looking for ways to transport cheese into their mouth. All food that involves cheese is just an excuse to eat cheese. It's life. You know how that's like life? Because we think we're going after something, but really we're just hiding from ourselves the thing we actually want. And that is to just ... bite into the cheese!"
Thanks for all the wisdom, Han. Keep it coming.
