Out celebrity chef Cat Cora plead no contest at the sentencing for the DUI citation she received on June 17 in Santa Barbara, CA. Cora will not face jail time as long as she completes all of the other court requirements, including DUI classes, probation and paying a fine, according to MSNBC.
According to a spokesperson for the Santa Barbara District Attorney, Cora was fined $2,386 and sentenced to three years’ probation after she pled no contest to having a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher while driving. In addition to the fine and probation, she must attend DUI classes for nine months, and faces a suspended jail sentence of 120 days if she fails to meet any of the other requirements.
Cora was arrested for DUI on June 17 when she rear-ended another car at a low speed just after 6:00 pm. None of the involved parties were injured, but the owner of the car Cora hit told the police at the scene that she thought Cora was drunk. Cora told the officers she had consumed three beers.
According to the police report, Cora took two breathalyzer tests at the scene, with results of .20 and .19, and had a blood test done at a hospital soon after that determined her BAC was .19, over two times the legal limit.
"I deeply regret my decision to drive that evening after my designated driver became unavailable," the Food Network star said in a statement not long after the incident. "I learned a very important lesson from this experience and take full accountability for my actions. This will never happen again."
