In case you needed another reason to love and swoon over Lil Nas X besides his musical talent and his impeccable sense of humor, the Grammy-winning rapper also happens to be great at interacting with the younger generation and teaching them some simple yet valuable lessons about what it means to be yourself!

In a recent episode of All Def Music's web series Arts & Raps, where popular hip-hop artists sit down to create arts and crafts projects with kids, the "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" rapper stopped by to paint some portraits with hosts Dilan and Zaria. Many topics of the discussion come up during their chat, the likes of which include coming out.

"What does it mean to come out of the closet?" Dilan asks X at one point during the conversation.

"It means you’re like, 'Hey everybody, I’m this thing, and you guys didn’t even know that, but now you know,'" X replies, giving a short but sweet answer.

"Why are people in the closet in the first place?" Zaria then asks.

"Once we tell somebody we’re this thing or that thing, their mind shifts completely, and it doesn’t matter how close you are to them," X then explains.

Back in 2019, X had a very public coming out and has since become one of this generation's defining queer artists. Though he does get homophobic, hateful backlash from time to time, his visibility makes is very much needed and appreciated by his many supporters and fans who have been wanting to see themselves represented more in the music world, and it's one of the things we love most about him!

"It means just doing yourself at all costs, no matter who’s watching," X says later in the video when asked about what it means to be unapologetically yourself.

He continued:

"It gets really hard, because everybody in the world, we always think about what everybody else is thinking about us. Sometimes we forget to think about what we think about ourselves, you know?"
