Barbie might be getting the spotlight these days, but Ken’s getting a whole power ballad to tell the world how he feels.

In a deeply enjoyable new marketing move for the upcoming Greta Gerwig film, Warner Bros. Pictures has released a music video featuring Ryan Gosling’s Ken singing his heart out about his feelings for Margot Robbie’s Barbie and struggle to find his identity as “Just Ken” without her.

“Doesn’t seem to matter what I do, I’m always number two,” he croons. “’Cause I’m just Ken. Anywhere else, I’d be a ten. Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?”

Barbie has, of course, been the primary subject in discussions about and promotion for Barbie, which Gosling has taken in stride, previously pointing out that this is exactly how things have always been for the Ken doll line, throughout history.

“You never cared,” he told GQ in May, addressing people who suddenly had strong opinions about Ken, or the casting. “Barbie never fucked with Ken. That’s the point. If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken.”

“This is why his story must be told,” he joked.

Barbie got its world premiere Sunday night, with vague praise for the film already rolling in ahead of its wide release later this month. And while we’re eagerly awaiting July 21, the Barbenheimer memes have turned into an unexpected marketing machine of their own for the film — so check those out!
