ABC's new comedy The Real O'Neals made waves last year when the trailer first premiered. The show (loosely based on the life of executive producer Dan Savage) was picked up and has already aired four episodes so far. If you haven't been watching, you defeinitely should! Here's why:
1. It stars an out and proud gay actor.
Sure, there are other shows that star gay actors, but it's always nice to see a member of the LGBT community representing themselves as an LGBT character on TV. In an interview with The Huffington Post, executive producer Todd Holland talked about 21-year-old actor Noah Galvin (who plays the lead character Kenny): "As a gay man, this is a landmark role on network television. It should not be played by a straight man pretending to be gay." And we agree!

2. One Million Moms hates it.
Yes, that group of moms who hate everything progressive (and who aren't, actually, a million strong), have called the show "depraved" and "vulgar." Supporting something they protest is reason enough to tune in!

3. It deals with more than just coming out.
The Real O'Neals makes it clear from the beginning that it's more than just a "gay show." The TV family deals with divorce, religion, body issues, cultural identity...you know, just like any real family.

4. It's hilarious.
The show's dialogue is quick and makes you laugh out loud at least a few times every episode. Let's hope the writers can keep it up!

5. You need something to tide you over until Game of Thrones starts up again, right?
