A star-studded cast filled with pop music icons joined together to take a stance against the violence LGBTQ people experience in Brazil.

Over 25 artists, including Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Lorde, Nico Tortorella, Lana Wachowski, and John Waters lent their images to the music video for "Igual" by Brazilian singer Yann. The song speaks to the high rates of violence and discrimination against the South American country's queer citizens.

"Unfortunately, most of the world isn’t aware that Brazil is an incredibly dangerous place for the LGBTI+ community. It was important for me to help shine a stronger light on what’s happening here, because Brazil’s actually the country with the highest LGBTI+ murder rate in the world. Yet, all of this is disguised under our dichotomous liberal lifestyle," Yann said.

Many folks think of Brazil as a liberal sanctuary that’s safe for queer folks. When we think of Brazil, we think of things like the newest music video by Alaska Thunderfuck, "Come to Brazil," which makes Brazil seem like this gay metropolis.

Yann is here to tell us that’s far from the case. The LGBTQ community in Brazil needs our support too.
