What does a likely lack of parenting skills and a 14-year-old boy lead to?
It leads to bashing a lesbian on a Friday night at 3:25 am in Edmonton and a 14-year-old boy being arrested for it.
Shannon Barry sustained a broken jaw and a broken eye socket after she and some friends were taunted then physically attacked by a group of hateful boys who allegedly yelled homophobic slurs at her.
I'm overwhelmed by everything," Barry said Saturday.
"I'm happy that somebody is going to be held responsible for what happened and, as far as his age goes, I'm just really sad."
Barry was forced to undergo reconstructive surgery requiring metal plates. She is facing a chance of permanent nerve damage, according to the Montreal Gazette.
As if that weren't enough, by the following Tuesday, there was no record of the incident because the investigating officer hadn't filed his report, as he was too busy getting ready for his days off. Good to know his priorities are in order...
After police learned of the error Tuesday, the hate crimes unit on Wednesday started investigating, Police Chief Mike Boyd said.
The officer is expected to face internal discipline for failing to properly file his report, according to Boyd.
Const. Ken Smith of the hate crimes unit confirmed the unit is still investigating and additional charges are possible.
