What exactly is at stake in the upcoming midterm elections? Openly gay Olympic ice skater Adam Rippon partnered with MTV to break down why voting on November 6 is so important, now more than ever.
Near the midpoint of a president's term, voters get a chance to elect representatives across every level of government, those of which can fight many of the harmful and anti-LGBTQ policies Trump has been strongarming his way through the House of Representatives, Congress, and the Senate. A huge wave of Democratic and Independent candidates are running, including Congress' first potential Muslim American women, and three states might elect their first Black Governors.
Now we just have to show up and vote them into office!
"The people we elect to office during in the midterms decide how we move as a nation on health care, immigration, gun policy, reproductive rights, the environment, equal rights, mental health, taxes, student loan debt, and the economy," notes Rippon. "If we don't show up, the things we care about won't show up either."
Election Day is Tuesday, November 6. Watch Adam Rippon break it all down in the vide below!
