A lesbian couple became the first same-sex couple to wed at West Point's Cadet Chapel over the weekend, according to USA Today. While the U.S. Military Academy previously hosted a same-sex wedding ceremony last week, this is the first in the Chapel.

Penelope Dara Gnesin (pictured right) and Brenda Sue Fulton (left) are the lucky ladies to exchange vows, just about a year after President Obama ended the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Fulton is a 53-year-old West Point alum, communications director for Outserve, and the first out gay member of the West Point Board of Visitors. She confirmed for the newspaper yesterday that the wedding would take place in the chapel today. Her fiance, Gnesin, is a 52-year-old breast cancer survivor with multiple sclerosis, which is one of the reasons the women decided they could not wait any longer for their home state of New Jersey to legalize marriage equality.
