Lesbian and Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum at Center of Skirmish with Orthodox Jews at Marriage Rally

A rabbi and an Orthodox Jewish protester, each on a different side of the marriage equality debate, got involved in a skirmish at a rally this week in New York. Video from the Times-Union newspaper in Albany shows an Orthodox protester from Rockland County, N.Y., demonstrating at the east side of the state Senate antechamber.

He and his compatriots were shouting "No vote for LGBT supporters" for about an hour.

Antigay senator Ruben Díaz then joined the protesters, but the demonstration was crashed by Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, who is a lesbian and a staunch activist for gay rights. Holding up a sign to counter the other protester's sign, she attempted to block the messaging. The situation erupted when she put her arm around the other protester.

He shouted at her, "You are not a Jew! You are not a Jew!" before a trooper came to disperse the crowd.
