Twitch to Premiere Superhero Series 'Unleashed' From LGBTQ+ Creators

Video live-streaming site Twitch has announced an innovative original series with The Unleashed. 

According to a press release, "The Unleashed is a compelling transmedia RPG (role-playing game) series that will feature filmed segments, deep audience engagement and a diverse cast.  By combining a scripted, inclusive superhero narrative with live storytelling, immersive audience participation, custom Twitch Extensions and high production values, The Unleashed will push boundaries, crafting together an ever-evolving world of content."

The series was written by Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, Glitter Force) and was produced by Twitch partner Meghan "Strawburry17" Camarena. She also stars in the series alongside Shelby Grace aka Shubble, Mika Midgett, Mike Bow, Christopher Sean and Aabria Iyengar, Joey Graceffa, LDShadowlady, Pkmnmasterholly, Paul Schrier, and more. 

The description of the eight-episode series reads: 

"Deep in the Angeles National Forest exists a Rift that opens to another dimension containing a superhuman community known as "the Unleashed." They have cut themselves off from the outside world to avoid being hunted by a nefarious government agency. But when that rogue agency finds a way to breach the Rift, it will be up to four Unleashed teenagers to team up and risk everything to save their world. 

In the pilot, a teen named Daniel (played by Mike Bow) experiences new powers and is taken into the Rift, where he meets an alien named Phee (played by Meghan Camarena), a witch named Mara (played by Mika Midgett) and a genial rogue named Charlie (played by Shelby Grace aka Shubble). Together, these friends will experience a brand-new world of magic, corruption and power. But hidden in plain sight is the genius named Dante (played by Christopher Sean), who may have plans of his own."  

The series will premiere on Meghan "Strawburry17" Camarena's account, who currently boasts over 1 million followers and 121 million views. "As an LGBTQ+ content creator, we felt it important to represent all walks of life and create a world where all things imaginable are possible, and anybody can be a hero," said Camarena. "The Unleashed is a passion project that will capture the hearts of our fans."

The Unleashed also features art from graphic novelist and animators Zachary Sterling (Adventure Time, Bee & Puppycat, DeadEndia) and Luke Duo, alongside a theme song from Matthew Grant. 

The Unleashed premieres Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30pm PDT on Strawburry17's Twitch!
