Lesbians and field hockey go together like chocolate and peanut butter, but throw both of those things into a musical and it’s even closer to perfection! Lucky residents in and around Brighton, England can check it out when Honeybees - The Musical, about the adventures of a lesbian field hockey team, plays this December 3 and 4 to raise funds for Brighton’s Allsorts Youth Project.
Billed as “The First (possibly) and Best (certainly) Field Hockey Musical Ever!” Honeybees – The Musical pits the Brighton Honeybees against the Hove Hornets in a battle for who will become “Queen of the Hive” with music and lyrics by Dungareen Jean and a script by Cat Walker and Rebecca Duffy.
“Enjoy rock, pop, hip-hop and musical favorites with a twist, from “Hockey Horror” to “Lady Lager.” You’ll laugh, you’ll cry (in a good way) but whatever happens you won’t be disappointed,” according to Honeybees - The Musical promo materials.
The Allsorts Youth Project supports and empowers young people under 26 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or unsure (LGBTU) of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The organization offers support groups, telephone and email support to LGBTQ youth, homophobia, transphobia and biphobia awareness training and much more.
So check out the must-see lesbian field hockey movie of the year, and all for a cause!
Tickets: £10/£7.50 concessions - available online or at the Sallis Benney Theatre on the night (subject to availability).
