Things are heating up on Vampire Academy, and PRIDE has an exclusive look at what’s going down in the latest episode.

For those who haven’t yet had the pleasure of checking out Peacock’s serialized adaptation of the popular novels, the show follows half-vampire Rose Hathaway (Sisi Stringer) and Lissa Dragomir (Daniela Nieves), a Moroi princess, as the former trains to protect the latter during their time at St. Vladimir’s Academy.

The world is populated with additional characters from the books, including another guardian-in-training, Meredith (Rhian Blundell) and socialite Moroi (a type of vampire in this world) Mia (Mia McKenna-Bruce).

The budding romance between these two has been an enjoyable part of the show so far, especially considering Vampire Academy in its print and film adaptation form has been filled with queer subtext that never seemed to be intentional, let alone explored.

The latest episode, “Near Guard, Far Guard,” explores the bond between them further, as a confrontation with a royal who threatens Meredith leads Mia to make a bold move against him to protect her, putting her standing and goals for the future in jeopardy.

New episodes of Vampire Academy drop on Peacock every Thursday morning, and episodes 1-5 — including “Near Guard, Far Guard” — are currently available to stream on the app.

The first season will consist of 10 episodes, and although it has yet to be renewed for a second season, with vampire vets Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre at the helm, fans are hopeful we’ll get to see more of where this goes after season one comes to a close later this fall.
