In his latest wavy R&B track, queer artist James Droll gets nostalgic for some old school kind of heartache.
"It's so much harder to escape toxic people in your life, be it romantic or platonic," Droll told PRIDE. "We live our lives carrying around a device that can instantly connect us to anyone we've ever known. I CANNOT be trusted with that kind of power, or at least drunk James can't be. It's the double-edged sword of accessibility."
The music video shows Droll in his high school years, playing saxophone in the band and tossing roses in a white tux for what we can only assume is a show choir—quite a different look from the Droll we see today.
"I found myself thinking about 50-60 years ago when you wouldn't get/send texts to someone you miss in a moment of weakness. When you wouldn't be sitting, phone in hand, overanalyzing every post, every tweet, every snap wondering if they missed you and were thinking about you. Technology has blurred the lines of a 'clean break' and "OSHB" is a reflection of that."
