The release of I Love You, Phillip Morris was delayed for the 5th time this week after a California judge issued a preliminary injunction preventing the movie’s release, Entertainment Weekly is reporting.
The indie prison love story stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor and was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009. Originally scheduled for release in the U.S. in February 2010, the picture has faced roadblocks due to a disagreement between the film’s producers and distributors.
The movie was produced by French movie studio EuropaCorp. EuropaCorp is suing the distributor Consolidated Pictures Group over an alleged failure to pay a $3 million advance for U.S. distribution rights. The injunction will stand until the dispute is settled in arbitration.
The film has reportedly grossed $14.2 million overseas having already been released throughout Europe and in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Taiwan and Thailand. The new tentative U.S. release date, barring any other unforeseen issues, is scheduled for October.
