Shoppers searching for Tea Bagger Christine O’Donnell’s new book Troublemaker on Amazon are in for a surprise.
The failed Delaware Senate candidate—who is not a witch—has found herself on the receiving end of an ironic cyber-prank, The Daily Beast reports. A search for “Christine O’Donnell” on the internet retailing giant Amazon results in an interesting list of products that includes an Evil Warlock Child Costume, books like Wicca and Witchcraft for Dummies, The 40-Year-Old-Virgin on DVD, and even a Hello Kitty Vibrator. (Who knew Miss Kitty was so kinky?)
The items accompanying searches for O’Donnell’s name on Amazon come courtesy of user-generated tags, which the company does not generally police unless customers complain. So long as recommended products don’t promote illegal behavior and descriptions do not include profanity, users are free to tag products in any way they like.
In this case, the tags appear to be poking fun at statements O’Donnell has made in the past condemning masturbation and premarital sex as well as her claim that she is indeed “not a witch."
This is not the first time a politician has been cyber-punked in this fashion. Who could forget the “Google Problem” Dan Savage created for Rick Santorum when he redefined the senator’s last name as a sexual neologism, which now appears at the top of web searches.
Perhaps O’Donnell could cast a cleansing spell to—oh, that’s right…she’s not a witch.
