We all know that Fox News is not exactly a haven for progressive feminist thought. But while we've perhaps come to expect some phallo-centric douchebaggery from the right-leaning "news" organization, a discussion on host Lou Dobbs's show Wednesday truly illuminated the misogyny characteristic of the network's talking heads.
Dobbs opens the segment acknowledging that he's about to do something unusual for him — discuss results from the Pew Center, a moderate, non-partisan think tank. (Which in Fox-ese means "left-wing commie propaganda machine," of course.)
Citing a Pew study that found women to be the primary earners in 40% of American homes, Dobbs categorizes the information together with "a lot of other concerning and troubling statistics" which indicate that "our society is being torn in so many directions."
Commentator Juan Williams was downright livid, saying the fact that women are sometimes the breadwinner in American households indicates the "disintegration of marriage."
But Erick Erickson provided the real icing on the cake.
"I am so used to liberals telling conservatives that they are anti-science," said Erickson. "But I mean this is — liberals who defend this and say it's not a bad thing are very anti-science. When you look at biology, look at the natural world, the roles of a male and female in society; in other animals the male typically is the dominant role, the female is not antithesis or is not competing; it's a complementary role."
Got that, ladies? It's your natural duty to be subservient to your man. In fact, if you dare assert your own independence or, say, ability to pay your own bills, you're living in open defiance to the laws of science. And probably God.
