The US Women’s Soccer team defeated New Zealand in Newcastle on Friday 2-0, and will take their four game win streak into the Olympic semifinals on Monday when they face the winner of Canada v Great Britain in Manchester.
Abby Wambach scored on an Alex Morgan cross in the 27th minute and freshman forward Sydney Leroux converted from the left side in the 87th minute to net the insurance goal for the US. The US outshot the Kiwis 22 to 10.

The goal was Wambach’s fourth of the tournament and eighth career Olympic goal. Her career resume boasts 142 international goals, and she now finds herself only 16 behind world record holder, Mia Hamm.
Goalkeeper Hope Solo recorded her third shutout in a row, the assistant by Morgan was her third of the tourney, and the goal by Leroux, assisted by Tobin Heath, was her first Olympic goal.
