6 Completely Ridiculous Reactions to Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair Cover

Seriously?

When TV personality and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner came out as trans on the cover of Vanity Fair earlier this month, she was greeted with a largely awesome reception. Unfortunately, not everyone quite gets it yet... We name and shame some of the celebs who are being just plain stupid about it all.

6. “His momma named him Bruce. Imma call him Bruce.” - Rapper Timbaland

Timbaland posted the enlightening words above in a Facebook meme. Hmm. Correct us if we're wrong, but we reckon his momma might have originally christened him something other than "Timbaland."

5. “Sorry... I'm still calling him Bruce!” - Actor Drake Bell

Bell made this comment in a tweet. The name we feel like calling him is unpublishable. After a sizeable public shaming on Twitter, Bell did apologize for any offense caused by the comments he "made in innocence."

4. “Shout out to Akon. He is about to supply 600 million Africans with solar power. Im really upset that this isn't major news but that science project bruce jenner is #society." [sic] - Rapper Snoop Dogg

Trust old Doggy to tweet this, using an argument form commonly known as "whataboutery", "OMG first world problems" or "the fallacy of relative privation"...  I bet Mr. Dogg doesn't complain when his concerts make front-page news instead of earthquakes in the Phillipines. And - "science project"?! We can't even.

3. “Jim Brown and Caitlyn somebody.” - Actor Clint Eastwood.

Eastwood discussing athletes who've become actors at Spike TV's Guys' Choice Awards. The scene is thankfully going to be cut from the TV broadcast later in the month.

2. "What the hell is going on?" - Fox news anchor Neil Cavuto

Cavuto was commenting on Jenner's Vanity Fair cover on the Fox News Business Update. He then went on to use male pronouns to describe Jenner throughout the item. Of course he did. *Headdesk*

1. “It would've been braver for Caityln Jenner to come out as gay.” - British journalist Julie Burchill

Burchill wrote this comment in a vitriolic article for the U.K.'s Sunday Times newspaper. She's historically shown a pretty flippant attitude to LGB as well as trans issues — commenting several times that she was once a "lesbian for six months" — so aside from the fact it's clearly total bull, this can hardly be taken as a well-thought-out assessment of the relative troubles experienced by gay/bi versus trans folk.
