7 Reasons to Date a Guy With Anxiety

Sadly, there is a much higher prevalence of anxiety in the LGBT community than the straight population.  Given the additional hardships queer folks face during their lifetimes, it's not a surprise. However, dating a man with anxiety doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In fact, there are certain traits anxious men have that make them better life partners.

Here are 7 reasons you should date a guy (or at least not immediately dismiss a guy) who has anxiety.

1. We’re introspective.

We think (i.e., obsess) about everything. What we want in ourselves, what we want in others, what the future holds. We are constantly looking inward, in an attempt to improve ourselves. We have a better understanding of our strengths and weaknesses.

2. We communicate ... everything.

We’ll probably tell you too much information, but guys with anxiety can’t hold in their thoughts. We word vomit, all over the place. In that sense, we’re communicators because we tell you everything we’re thinking.

3. We’ll never judge you for worrying.

We’ll never think what you’re thinking is ridiculous or “too much.” We know what it’s like to think of thoughts that are highly unlikely to happen. We’ll support you, the way you support us.

4. We’re empathetic.

We understand what you’re thinking. We understand what you’re going through. We understand what it’s like to be trapped inside your own mind and to have a cyclical pattern of maladaptive thought. We can relate, and maybe even help.

5. We’re on time.

Always. We assume the bus is going to take an hour even though it usually takes 15 minutes. So we usually end up arriving early.

6. There's always a plan B.

If plan A fails, it's not a problem. We always have plans B-Z prepared. We can’t help but think the worst is going to happen, so when something happens that isn’t planned, we always have a backup solution.

7. We’ll be there for you.

We know we’re a handful. It doesn’t go unnoticed, so when you need us, we’ll be there for you, just like you’ve been there for us.
