Second 'Overwatch' Character Revealed As Gay

Overwatch has confirmed another one of its main characters to be gay in a short story that was released yesterday.

The popular multi-player first-person shooter game previously utilized the comics to reveal one of its heroes, Tracer, was in a relationship with another woman.

This latest illustrated story, Bastet, sees another popular character, Soldier: 76 aka Jack Morrison, fighting back memories of an old love, Vincent.

“Vincent… I haven’t thought about him in years,” another character, Ana, says after finding a photo of the two men together. “Still keeping a candle lit for him?”

Jack reveals Vincent got married, after they split up because as a soldier, Jack could “never put anything above [his] duty.”

It’s a short scene, but clear in its indication.

But in case it wasn’t, lead writer Michael Chu confirmed Jack and Vincent’s previous relationship on Twitter:

“Jack and Vincent were in a romantic relationship many years ago. Both identify as gay,” the tweet reads.

With LGBTQ representation in video games still fairly dismal, this little tidbit of info about a character — a badass soldier character, no less — is a pretty cool thing. And the writer treating it as super casual but also confirming it in no uncertain terms is pretty awesome, too.
