The night belonged to two of the biggest names in pop music.

Last night, MTV's 33rd annual Video Music Awards took place in New York City, and although all kinds of artists were recognized with Moon Men for their achievements in music and music videos over the past year, the real winners of the night were Video Vanguard honoree Rihanna, and the most awarded artist in VMA history, Beyoncé.

Bad Gal RiRi took to the stage not once...

...not twice...

...not three times...

...but an whopping FOUR times to perform a medley of all of the hits she's had (so far) over her 11-year career.

At the end of the night, when she was presented with the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, her longtime collaborator, friend, and rumored beau Drake gave an emotional and heartfelt speech that literally gave us all the feels. (WE <3 AUBRIH!!)

Queen Bey, who took home video of the year and best female video Moon Men (for "Formation" and "Hold Up" respectively), became the most awarded artist in VMA history. She beat the record — when she won her 21st Moon Man at last night's ceremony — previously held by fellow living legend Madonna (who has 20 VMAs in her trophy case).

And, as if the Bey Hive wasn't already blessed with enough awesomeness,  Beyoncé also took the stage last night to perform hits off of her smash visual album Lemonade. The epic performance was over 15 minutes long, and seriously gave everyone LIFE.

All in all, it was a good night for two of today's most inspiring, empowering, and strong women of color. And there is sure to be much more slayage to come from both RiRi and Bey in the years ahead!
