'New York Post' Gossip Guru Liz Smith Fired!

New York Post columnist and gossip guru Liz Smith was fired from her post Tuesday.  Editor in Chief of The Post Col Allan blamed her being let go on the fledgling economy, Gawkerreported.

"Like so many other newspapers around the nation, we are buffeted by unprecedented economic gales," Allan told Smith in a Feb. 9 letter that said he would not be renewing her contract for what he called her "legendary column."

A journalist since the late forties, the openly bisexual octogenarian has been delivering the daily gossip since she began a gossip column for the New York Daily News in the early seventies.

Smith's fans never fear. She'll continue to contribute to the women oriented site Wowowow.com.
