UK Fans Accuse Network of Censoring 'Schitt's Creek' LGBTQ Content

Must we keep doing this?

Schitt’s Creek fans aren’t too happy after discovering a channel in the UK might be censoring some of the LGBTQ content.

The beloved Canadian show may be known for its inclusion of heartwarming LGBTQ storylines, but people watching the show for the first time in the UK may have a slightly different viewing experience.

Fans began tweeting the network, 4Music, as well as Schitt’s Creek creator Dan Levy over the weekend, claiming that 4Music seemed to be editing out random parts of scenes between Levy’s character, David, and his male love interests.

“4Music showed Schitt’s Creek with cut dialogue between David and Patrick,” user AshthenRuby tweeted. “‘…to sleep with me or whatever’ is just missing. But their kiss is there. And [episode’s] earlier talk of Moira sleeping with Roland remains. And Moira still says ‘fuck,’ so some curious censoring.”

Levy tweeted the network directly when word of the discrepancy reached him.

“Is this true, @4Music? Censoring kissing and intimate dialogue?” he wrote. He then shared a scene reportedly taken from the channel in which a kiss between David and Jake had been removed.

Fans immediately reacted, pointing out how dangerous it is for a network to censor content in this way, suggesting that behaviors within LGBTQ relationships are intrinsically "mature content" compared to the exact same type of behavior between heterosexual couples.

4Music has yet to respond to the accusations.
