It's All Bogey, Bogey, No Par at the US Women's Open Golf Tournament

It's bogey, bogey, no par at the US Women's Open golf tournament in Saucon Valley. Our resident lesbian golf guru Helen Wortham wraps up the swings so far from Lorena Ochoa, Na Yeon Choi, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and more.

Do professional golfers swear? If they don’t I’ll never play professionally and if they do it’s going to happen at the Old Course in Saucon Valley right now during the Women’s Open. The best chance to see the shit hit the sand wedge is at the par-4 373 yd. third hole.

As play continues, aggressive players who miscalculate their club choice are going to drop the ball in the Saucon creek that lies right in front of the green and drop an F-bomb along with it. Scores like 8 and 7 were getting posted and even Paula Creamer and In-Kyung Kim had to settle with double-bogey 6s on day one. Where’s the love? Where’s the par?

Paula Creamer

The love of the lead is held by South Korean Na Yeon Choi at 3 under par. Choi birdied her first three holes, sticking two of the approach shots within two feet. Second place is shared by three for now. Cristie Kerr, Lorena Ochoa, and an unheralded player named Jean Renolds. They all hold a one-stroke lead over another South Korean, Hee Young Park, who led the field after 16 holes but choked and double-bogeyed on the 17th. Double the hole-double the profanity?

Hee Young Park

Even with the tough course, there were some great shots.

Ochoa sunk a 50-foot putt that had to roll over a hump and through a double break to go in. I know what you’re thinking but over the bridge and through the giraffe’s mouth at the mini golf place doesn’t count.

Be aware though, all this fun will run through the weekend with a controversy running right behind it. Fifteen of the top LPGA players met Monday to discuss the weakening state of next year’s schedule. A letter was drafted asking LPGA commissioner, Carolyn Bivens to resign.

Carolyn Bivens

Now, with the Open started, no one wants to talk about the schedule, Bivens, or the future of the tour. There’s a great deal of speculation about what has happened and what it will take to give the LPGA a boost (my opinion? fill the gap left by high profile Annika Sorenstam leaving). But the golf I’m seeing looks great from where I’m sitting. Get your golf and your profanity while you can, ladies…who knows what’s going to happen when this one is over.
