Netflix has recently canceled some fan faves, but here’s what that does and doesn’t mean for this queer-inclusive series.

Some fans of The Sandman are getting very nervous about the future of their favorite series.

This anxiety follows recent cancellations like Warrior Nun, First Kill, and Inside Job — the latter in particular because the streamer had initially greenlit a second season before reversing its decision.

But according to executive producer and author Neil Gaiman, there’s no need to worry, we will see Morpheus and the gang again.

This all started with Tumblr user aceromanticperfection asking Gaiman if season two was in danger. “Are you sure The Sandman is safe? Because Netflix just reversed its order of a second season (third and fourth ‘part’) from Inside Job, so I was wondering,” they wrote.

“Define ‘safe’,” Gaiman responded. “Netflix could go out of business before more Sandmanlaunches. A new, nightmarish pestilence could close the world down completely. The actors could all be eaten by weasels and the show would be shuttered.”

“But if there’s a Netflix and nothing unforeseen and tragic happens to close the world or the show down, then there will be more Sandman,” he reassured.

This is not the first time Gaiman has had to publicly quell fears about the future of The Sandman. Back in December, after news broke that there was a “brewing streaming war” between Warner Bros. and Netflix, fans were concerned that the series might become a casualty. Gaiman took to Twitter to shut down those fears.

Sandman Season 2 has been commissioned by Netflix and is real. Whatever behind the scenes wrangling and negotiating needed to happen to make this a reality has already occurred,” wrote the author.

While there’s no word yet on when The Sandman will return, Netflix is reportedly deciding whether or not to release it in its full binge model, or if it will adopt the Stranger Things model and put the episodes out in batches.

Whenever or however Netflix does end up releasing season two, we just can’t wait to get back into the world of the Endless.
