Chick-fil-A Is Done Donating to Anti-LGBTQ Charities
Mmm, tastes like gay chicken!
We did it!!!
Anyone who says protesting and constantly calling out corporations for anti-LGBTQ values doesn’t work was in for quite a shock today when Chick-fil-A announced, after all these years, that they would finally commit to no longer funding anti-LGBTQ organizations.
The fast food company has repeatedly come under fire for donating millions of dollars to both the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, both of which have often been criticized for discrimination against the LGBTQ community.
Now, Chick-fil-A says they won’t be giving either group another dime.
“We made multi-year commitments to both organizations and we fulfilled those obligations in 2018,” a spokeswoman for Chick-fil-A said.
Protests against the company have continued for years, and in 2019, San Antonio blocked the restaurant from being included in plans for an airport restaurant hub over their donations, and the first UK Chick-fil-A announced its intention to close after only 11 days due to backlash.
Prior to today, Chick-fil-A has insisted that the company is not against the LGBTQ community, despite its CEO’s public opposition to same-sex marriage and donations to controversial Christian groups.
“We have no policy of discrimination against any group, and we do not have a political or social agenda,” a spokesperson said in 2018, only a few months before it was determined they were still donating to the same charities.
But now, they are supposedly determined to rehabilitate their image and focus their charitable giving on “education, homelessness, and hunger.”
So go out and celebrate this win for the gays with a chicken sandwich that no longer tastes like hate! …or wait and see if Chick-fil-A actually makes good on their word, this time.
