Ever since it was first announced last year, we've been eagerly awaiting any news we can get on drag legend RuPaul's upcoming Netflix comedy series AJ and the Queen. It's been a while since we've heard anything, but it looks like all of our patience is starting to pay off, because a release date for the show has finally been ruvealed!
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight at last weekend's DragCon LA, Mama Ru talked about some of her upcoming projects (as if a Netflix series and Drag Race wasn't enough to keep her busy, Ru is also working on a talk show and the UK version of Drag Race in the near future), revealing that AJ and the Queen is due out sometime in January 2020.
"AJ and the Queen is a show on Netflix that comes out in January, that was created by Michael Patrick King and myself," she told ET.
Taking more about AJ and the Queen, Ru continued:
"It is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done because it’s acting like a real human. Usually in acting roles, I play the gay best friend or the neighbour. This is a fully rounded human being with all of the emotions. We shot that for five months. We were in the writers room for two months. I had to memorise pages and pages of dialogue. Some days I had 11 pages of dialogue to memorise, and then the next day it would be eight pages. It was a challenge, but I’m so proud of it."
While we don't know much else about the series, we do know the cast has already been set, and will include Orange Is the New Black and The Other Two hunk Josh Segarra, who is set to play RuPaul's boyfriend!
We can't wait to to see RuPaul's continued takeover of the entertainment world!! (Ughh, is it January yet?!)
