After appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to ask the public to deliver aid to Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin has landed in his homeland Monday, a day before President Donald Trump. The musician arrived with other celebrities, Luis Fonsi, Emilio, Chayanne, and Gloria Estefan, who were pictured loading water and supplies onto trucks upon arrival. Many Puerto Ricans still lack access to power, water, and food.
It’s incredibly intense what Puerto Rico is going through at the moment. It will take a long time for my island to go back what it was. The governor of Puerto Rico Ricardo Rosselló said it will cost approximately 90 billion dollars to rebuild the island. We need more help. Thousands of families lost EVERYTHING .......but their smiles and love for life is intact. We are optimistic. Everything is going to be ok and my island will shine again. BUT WE NEED TO WORK......ALOT. #Allin4PR For donations link on BIO. @omarcruzphoto
Martin, who reported on Ellen that his brother and father have been on the island throughout Hurricanes Maria and Irma, visited Loiza, a famed beach town in the midst of a crisis. Reports from the small town say it is dire need of food, medicine, water, and means of communication. With many elderly people, pregnant women, and children seeking medical assistance from overwhelmed and understaffed hospitals, volunteers are needed to help vulnerable patients fight off dehydration, infectious diseases, and malnutrition.
Martin is continuing to raise funds for hurricane relief.
